We started a bucket list for Delray when she was diagnosed with canine lymphoma. She went paddle boarding, "finger" painted, we got family portraits done, carved her name in a tree, went apple picking, and the list goes on. Scott turned to me one day and asked why we didn't have a bucket list like Delray had - so we made one. At first I just kept it on my phone, but that felt lame and like our adventures weren't really documented. When Scott and I got married, I wanted to get Scott a unique wedding gift. Of course, I thought about a traditional gift like a watch, but I wanted something more sentimental. More meaningful to our future lives as an old married couple. I found this AMAZING Etsy shop, Indigo Artisans, who makes the most beautiful handmade leather journals. So beautiful that you want to rub your face on it. No, seriously, I have rubbed my face on it several times. The second I saw it, I knew that had to be the gift. I ordered it with a few of the pages including maps of the world, after all, a lot of our bucket list includes traveling, and some hand stitching on the front "A & S" (so nobody can steal it, of course). One of my coworkers also has an Etsy shop, Off the Beaten Press, and designed the title page of our new official Bucket List. Each page lists one or two of our bucket list items with enough room to put a picture so we have a memory of the adventure. My favorite thing about our bucket list is thinking about our kids and grandchildren looking at it one day. (I know, how scary is it to think about little baby Adrianne and Scotts running around?! We have already come to terms they will not be geniuses. Guaranteed the little monsters will be meat heads. Lord, help us all!) My other favorite thing about it was Scott's reaction when he opened it before our ceremony. Tell me the picture does not melt. your. heart. All of this to say, #YOLO. Work, diet, exercise, adulting... should all be balanced with play time, pizza, wine, and lazy days without getting out of your pjs. If you don't have a bucket list, make one. Document the adventures you want to take on, get to planning, and bring your memories home to look back on and see what you have accomplished. We just added biking the Virginia Capital Trail to our list (which will include some winery stops along the way - yes, Mom, we will wear helmets). I can't wait to document the silliness that will happen during that trip... I might need to invest in a GoPro...
